2016 Annual Giving

#mydplstory

Friends,

As time goes by, I always reflect on the effects that my mother’s push had on me. She has always been strong in ways I didn’t understand. Her belief in my future was always at the pinnacle of her concern.

She was a stay at home mom for the bulk of my life and made many sacrifices for me and my three sisters but she did them all in the name of a better tomorrow for us.

The constant message was education…its importance and necessity for the many dreams that her girls held. We were introduced to the library as a life resource very early on which made for a lack of belief in glass ceilings later in life, it’s amazing how profoundly the words between those pages affected me then and now.

I am now the mother of a beautiful daughter myself and I introduced her to the library just as my mother did…she thinks it’s cool that I work here. I love the feeling I get knowing that I’m introducing her to a lifetime of learning that will serve her and potentially her own family one day.

Please join me and continue to support universal access to the ever evolving technologies, information and programming available at The Detroit Public Library. Together, we can guarantee these opportunities for many generations to come.

I love the feeling I get knowing that I’m introducing my daughter to a lifetime of learning that will serve her and potentially her own family one day.

Sincerely,

Karlyta Williams
