The DPL Foundation offers fiscal sponsorship to projects that advance literacy, digital access, and learning across Detroit. Through this program, mission-aligned initiatives can accept tax-deductible donations, apply for grants, and build capacity under our 501(c)(3) umbrella while maintaining creative and operational independence.
What We Provide
Fiscal sponsorship allows emerging organizations to focus on their mission while we handle the administrative and financial compliance. Sponsored projects benefit from:
- Access to charitable funding through DPL Foundation’s nonprofit status
- Financial oversight and donor acknowledgment services
- Capacity-building resources and professional reporting
- A trusted partnership with an established community foundation
our model
We use a Model C Fiscal Sponsorship, where DPL Foundation receives and manages charitable funds for approved projects. Each project operates independently but reports on its activities and outcomes to ensure all funds support charitable and educational purposes.

We sponsor initiatives that:
- Promote literacy, creativity, or digital inclusion
- Serve Detroit residents and neighborhoods
- Demonstrate clear community benefit and leadership
Organizations awaiting 501(c)(3) status or unincorporated groups pursuing charitable goals are welcome to apply.
how it works
1. Submit your project proposal through our Fiscal Sponsorship Interest Form.
2. Meet with our team to confirm alignment and readiness.
3. Upon approval, we finalize an agreement and establish a restricted fund.
4. Begin fundraising and reporting with our support and oversight.
